PRP Skin Rejuvenation Therapy

Platelet Rich Plasma (or PRP as it is know) skin rejuvenation therapy is the new kid on the block concerned with reducing wrinkles and fine lines on the face and giving back to the skin a much more youthful appearance and bloom.

As the skin ages, it loses a lot of its collagen and becomes thinner, additionally, the amount of elastin in the skin is also reduced.  Elastin is a protein in connective tissue that is elastic and allows many tissues in the body to resume their shape after stretching or contracting.  Elastin helps skin to return to its original position when it is poked or pinched and is why as one gets older, the wrinkles start appearing.

The blood contains a substance known as platelets, which are small, irregularly shaped clear cell fragments (and do not contain a nucleus).  Platelets release a multitude of growth factors including Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF), a potent chemotactic agent, and TGF beta, which stimulates the deposition of extracellular matrix.  Both of these growth factors have been shown to play a significant role in the repair and regeneration of connective tissues.

During PRP skin rejuvenation therapy, a small sample of your own blood is taken (about100 mls) and the red and white blood corpuscles are centrifuged out and the resulting blood plasma is enriched. This is then re-injected back into the areas which show signs of ageing (notably the face) and the platelets  cause the amount of both collagen and elastin to increase reducing or eliminating wrinkles giving back to the skin it's youthful bloom and elasticity.

It is completely safe (far safer than Botox for instance) as it uses your own blood and therefore is completely hypo-allergenic and whereas Botox can give an artificial look to the face, the results from PRP therapy are far more natural looking and last far longer.
